Citizenship

Recent changes to Italy’s citizenship law introduced some restrictions on Italian citizenship by descent. This was followed by constitutional challenges that are now moving through the Italian courts, as well as before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) since Italian citizenship also confers EU citizenship.

Although eligibility for Italian citizenship does exist through Italy’s citizenship laws, there are additional procedural limits for applications filed through consulates, including annual caps and longer processing timelines.

Our team has the knowledge and experience in Italian citizenship and immigration law to help you successfully obtain dual citizenship and an Italian passport.

From document procurement to translations and legal filings, we manage all the steps of the citizenship or visa process, including:

  • Obtaining Italian vital records for your ancestors or family members
  • Procuring documents and official translations into Italian
  • Guiding you through the full application or petition process in Italy or abroad

With several legal avenues still open, applicants affected by the new law should not assume that waiting is the safer option. For many families, starting a judicial case now remains the clearest path forward before further procedural barriers take effect.

Our legal team assesses each case individually and advises clients with complete transparency about the legal risks, timing, and available strategies.
